ABEA launches Associate Memberships to support emerging talent and in-house planners

The Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) has launched new membership categories, expanding access and support for individuals working with, or aspiring to work in, the business events industry.

The new categories, Student Membership and In-house Planner Membership, reflecting the growing number of professionals delivering events outside traditional event companies.

Melissa Brown – ABEA CEO

Melissa Brown, CEO, ABEA said the business events industry extends into many types of organisations from corporates, for-purpose, universities, associations, and everything in between.

“The new Associate Membership categories help us cater to colleagues in all areas of business events, by creating a more inclusive and practical pathway.

“We warmly welcome students and in-house planners and other event staff to connect with the industry, build capability, take part in our education and join a national community that supports professional growth.

“We need many hands to create the future we all desire for our sector,” said Brown.

After being approved at ABEA’s Annual General Meeting in November 2025, the two new Associate Memberships are designed to better support people in different career stages and diverse professional environments, strengthening pathways into the business events community.

Student Membership is available to individuals currently enrolled in full-time or part-time study who are seeking to build their knowledge, industry connections and careers within the business events industry.

In-house Planner Membership is available for professionals whose role includes planning or delivering events within organisations whose core business sits outside the events industry. This includes (but not limited to) staff employed by associations, not-for-profits, universities and organisations across sectors such as technology, financial services, health and medical, and manufacturing.

Associate members gain access to ABEA’s community, education and insights, including member rates for all networking and social functions.

Annual pricing is set at AU$150 per year for In-house Planner Membership and AU$60 per year for Student Membership.
