The Victorian Convention and Event Trust (VCET) Annual Report for the year ended 30 June 2025 has been released. The report shares the combined activities of VCET in its operation of Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) and its preparation for the future operation of Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre.
Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has reported a solid 2024/25 performance, underpinned by strong utilisation of its exhibition and events footprint at South Wharf. In the 12 months to 30 June 2025, MCEC hosted 714 events and welcomed 3.2 million visitors, representing an 8 per cent lift in foot traffic year-on-year, with October the busiest month at close to 50,000 visitors.
For the exhibition market in particular, MCEC’s calendar continued to blend major trade shows and large-scale public events, helping to draw 816,345 delegates across the year. Flagship exhibition-led activations included All Energy and Waste Expo Australia, Australian Manufacturing Week, Land Forces 2024 International Land Defence Exposition and Fine Food Australia, alongside sector gatherings such as the Australian Toy, Hobby and Licensing Fair. Overall, MCEC delivered 27 international, 170 national and 432 local meetings, conferences and exhibitions, reinforcing its role as a high-throughput exhibition and business events venue.
Financially, MCEC recorded revenue of $116 million in the 2024/25 financial year, a 5 per cent rise on the previous year. October also recorded 66 per cent venue utilisation and a record operational revenue month of $15.8 million. The venue generated $686 million in economic impact for the state, a drop from the previous year’s $777 million revenue.
“Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre plays a pivotal role in Victoria’s economic success,” Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos said.
MCEC chief executive Natalie O’Brien said the economic impact of the Victorian Convention and Event Trust continues to support local businesses and communities.
