John Burke appointed to the Board of Directors of AIPC

ASM Global (APAC) have announced that John Burke, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) for 2025/2026 — a significant milestone that strengthens Asia’s and Malaysia’s footprint in the global meetings and conventions industry.

This prestigious appointment underscores both the Centre’s leadership in hosting world-class events and reinforces the region’s growing influence in shaping international standards for convention excellence.

“This role offers a valuable platform to collaborate with global peers in shaping the future of convention centres, while highlighting the strengths of Malaysia and Asia Pacific on the world stage,” said John.

“I look forward to exchanging regional best practices to elevate standards across our venues and further position Kuala Lumpur and the region as leading hubs for international business events.”

As part of the AIPC Board, John joins respected global leaders such as Julianne Jammers (SwissTech Convention Center) and T. Taubie Motlhabane (Cape Town International Convention Centre), contributing to the strategic direction of an association that represents venues in over 55 countries worldwide.

His appointment is timely, aligning with Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB)’s vision to welcome 5.9 million delegates and generate RM42.12 billion in economic impact by 2030. John’s role will serve as a strategic platform to support this national ambition while raising Kuala Lumpur’s profile as Asia’s most dynamic meetings destination.
