Marie Kinsella, CEO of International Expo Group Pty Ltd, has announced her retirement, closing the chapter on her 30-year career in the industry.
Marie has sold her shares in International Expo Group Pty Ltd to co-director, Gesheng Shen, who will continue as Director alongside Carly Molnar, General Manager, and a talented team. They will carry forward the company’s portfolio of events, including Global Sourcing Expo and the National Education Summit, both held twice yearly. “I have no doubt they will continue to deliver exceptional experiences and grow these events even further,” comments Marie.

Marie Kinsella
Marie’s exhibitions industry journey began in 1989, when she joined Australian Trade Exhibitions Pty Ltd and worked with Managing Director, Graeme Uthmeyer. This experience set the foundations for Marie’s success. In 1997, as a sole operator, she launched Australian Exhibitions & Conferences Pty Ltd (AEC), which would become one of the largest Australian-owned trade fair and event organisers, with more than 45 staff. When the company was sold to a multi-national public company in 2011, it had successfully organised over 170 exhibitions (including 30 startup shows) that hosted over 1 million guests.
Marie stepped away from the industry for four years, returning as CEO of a new startup, International Exhibition & Conference Group Pty Ltd in 2016. This dynamic company conducted 10 major trade shows annually and, over the next seven years, hosted more than 160,000 visitors at its in-person events. During the Covid restrictions, it moved rapidly to present virtual exhibitions and conferences across four industries. “We pivoted to online platforms, creating virtual experiences that kept industries connected when physical doors were closed. It was a time of innovation, resilience and sheer determination – a testament to the strength of our teams and the trust of our clients. Against all odds, the exhibition industry roared back to life. Seeing packed halls was very satisfying and very emotional. It proved what we always believed: human connection is irreplaceable,” says Marie. “No matter how technology evolves, nothing will ever replace the power of people coming together in person at exhibitions and trade shows. These experiences remind me that success is not measured by numbers alone – it’s measured by relationships, adaptability, and the courage to embrace change”.
A formidable legacy and a vision for the empowerment of people
Reflecting on her journey, Marie expresses deep gratitude for colleagues, staff, partners and clients who made it all possible through their collaboration, passion and a shared vision for success. “This industry has given me so much: lifelong friendships, unforgettable experiences and lessons in resilience and innovation”.
Speaking to her legacy, Marie says that wants to be remembered as someone who created opportunities for others to grow and succeed. “Nothing makes me prouder than seeing former team members start their own businesses and thrive in the exhibition industry and other industries. I hope I’ve helped spark that entrepreneurial spirit along with a strong work ethic and shown that integrity, determination and resilience can lead to a fulfilling work life”.
